Do you feel like you are constantly running on reserve? Do you re-charge just enough to make it through the day? Do you live from 'to-do-item' to 'to-do-item'? Then you may be at risk of a burnout. 👀

I have always been fascinated with 'energy management', especially how strong, passionate people deal with their energy.

Are you aware when you use more energy than you generate? Can you set healthy boundaries? Do you plan for a long term sustainable way of working, or only focus on short-term success, with the risk of a burn-out? 👩🏼‍💻

I recently went hiking and was reminded of how this recharges and relaxes me. To be in my body and not in my mind for a while. I desperately need more of this. And I know it. Then why don't I do this more often? Recognise this? Let’s help each other to find healthy routines so we can keep doing what we love for years and years to come… 🥾

On Wednesday, December 13th, from 8 - 9.30 PM I will discuss 'energy management & burnout prevention’ with a small group of like-minded people. We'll share our experiences and - most of all - solutions. To be able to achieve big results, in a balanced, sustainable way. ✨

IK GA MET PENSIOEN! KOM JE OP MIJN FEEST? ❤️

Al jaren komt in mijn meditaties naar boven dat mijn grootste wens is om meer ‘space’ te voelen. Na meer dan 50 jaar extreem vol doen; productiviteit en ‘no excuses’ verlang ik naar ruimte om te zijn. Geen afspraken, verplichtingen of to-do-lijsten. Meer ruimte voor spontaan avontuur en creativiteit. De mooiste momenten in mijn leven ontstonden spontaan op momenten dat ik niets gepland had. Daar wil ik meer van!

Op 28 juni 2025 word ik 55. Ik ga afscheid nemen van deze productieve levensfase met een EENMALIGE NO EXCUSES AFSCHEIDS-THEATERSHOW IN AMSTERDAM. En daarna heb ik besloten om alles om te draaien. In plaats van proberen minder te werken, en eilandjes van zijn te creëren in het doen, wil ik omschakelen naar zijn met hooguit een paar kleine eilandjes van doen daarin.

Bij deze ben jij uitgenodigd voor mijn grote ‘no excuses’ afscheidsshow in Amsterdam. Daarin ga ik mijn levenswerk aan je overdragen, op een amusante, interactieve manier. Van alles een beetje. Van ‘no excuses’ tot tango. Van reizen tot ondernemen. Van Tiny Trullo tot boeken schrijven. Van doen naar zijn.

“If you ignore your body’s whispers, you are going to have to listen to it scream.”

Are you ignoring the subtle hints your body is giving you? A mild headache, a small flu, a little pain here and there? Of course you CAN continue, take some medicine, caffeine, sugar or even drugs to keep yourself going. But if you don’t change your ways and allow your body and mind a chance to recover, you will find that the ‘hints’ your body gives you will get stronger and stronger…

For me, it took TWO car accidents, TWO whiplashes and TWO burnouts to finally pay attention to the wisdom of my body. I am still learning to find a new balance, but I now recognize that so much more is possible than I thought. I can still be productive, but in a more balanced way, which makes it more sustainable.

When I left Puglia it seemed a crazy idea, but once I landed in Thailand I was so glad I did it… 💪🧳

Figs from my own @tinytrullo trees, dried in the Italian sun, taste even better under the palm trees! 🌳 🌴

My favorite combination is one fig and some chia seeds soaked in coconut oil overnight: the best breakfast. 😋

This is my last fig… Tomorrow I travel back to Europe. 🌎 ✈️

CHATGPT WORKS IN LANGUAGES 🌎

It amazes me how many people still don't know that ChatGPT works in all languages. Finally, an AI program that works well in a weird language like Dutch or Papiamentu.

This means you can ask ChatGPT for translations. Don't forget to give another instruction afterwards "Now write the translated piece in better Dutch (or English, or whatever language), in my own tone of voice (which you describe)": this step-by-step instruction makes a world of difference!

You can also ask ChatGPT to be your language teacher. For example, I occasionally ask him to provide feedback on WhatsApp and other messages that I write in Italian. He then tells me what I am doing well and what I could do better and, if asked, also explains the grammar.

WRITE, EAT, ENJOY, SLEEP, REPEAT...

I feel so blessed to live this life, and to be able to share this experience -and my skills as a writer and entrepreneur- with others during my writing retreats.

Whether it is your first book, and you arrive here with just an idea, like @RossGerson, or you have been writing your fiction book for years and are ready for the final push, like @stev_eburke , have already written business books, like @zijvanbloei , or don’t like writing at all, but have a publishers deal based on your expertise in change-management, like @biancadeslions : all are welcome and benefit from a week of focus and guidance, being among like-minded people.

We even had a participant who did not write a book, but a travel article; journalist @morvennagoudkade

At the start of the retreat, everybody was reluctant to call themselves a ‘writer’, today they went home with a new feeling of accomplishment... 💪

As this writing retreat is coming to an end, I am already making the preparations for the next one, March 19-26 in Curaçao (Dutch Caribbean). And of course I have also reserved the same amazing writer’s villa for next year’s Thailand retreat : Nov 11-18.

I have a confession to make… I call them writing retreats, and we do write books, but in fact they are also foodie retreats.

I just love to surprise my writers with local food experiences, like this cooking demo in the writers villa.

Local talent ‘Chika’ showed us how to prepare a traditional corn salad, tofu laab, thai herb soup and, of course, mango sticky rice for dessert.
