THE HUMAN LIBRARY

In Denmark, there are libraries where you can borrow a person instead of a book to listen to their life story for 30 minutes. The goal is to fight prejudice. ❤️

Each person has a title - “unemployed” or “refugee” or “bipolar” etc. - but listening to their story you realize how much you shouldn’t “judge a book by its cover”. This creative, groundbreaking project, known as the Human Library, is active in fifty countries.

It can save you so much time and energy, and it can be fun too. I have been using Fiverr a lot. Both for serious tasks (solving Excel or Wordpress problems for example) and for fun things (such as creating a hilarious birthday video for my mom).

Starting at just $5 per 'gig' it is absolutely worth trying.

Just browsing through the possibilities gives so much inspiration.

It is also a great platform to MAKE some money, especially in these times. Give the link to your teenage kids and watch them figure out how to make some money by doing the things they are good at and enjoy this international market place. 🌏

In 1996 I graduated from the University of Florida in Gainesville. My Cypriot roommate @drakos.christos (right in the first pic and on the third pic) and I always kept in touch.
We ate apple pie together last week in Amsterdam 😋. Now I am in Thessaloniki 🇬🇷 and just met Stavros (left on the first pic and on the second pic) here for a coffee. Such a coincidence to see two good friends within a week after all these years. So many great memories!
I love having friends all over the world ❤️

We are often so consumed by ‘things’. Let’s focus on love; it’s the only thing we know for sure that is always there. It may be the last thing that remains of a person…

You’re leaving us little by little
Your body is still here, but your mind is drifting further away
It’s scary to see how a mind that was once so sharp now has problems with simple things
Once you made lots of money, now even simple math is too much
Once you traveled all over the world, now you don’t remember where you live
Once you provided for your family, now you forget to eat and drink
You used to tell stories, now you repeat the same lines over and over
You still crack jokes, but they’re always the same
And you ask interested questions, but you forget the answers
Some people change personality because of this horrible disease
Fortunately, you seem to become more open and loving every day
We help you where we can, but you want to be independent
One thing is still the same: you are still as stubborn as ever!
You try to keep your grip on the world around you, but it’s slipping through your fingers like sand.
When you can’t trust yourself anymore, the world becomes an overwhelming place, so you’d rather stay at home
Watching CNN, over and over again.
I wish you’d concentrate on happier things, but you seem content
Maybe CNN is made for people like you; repeating the same ‘news’ over and over
It has become your lifeline to the world
Every day you go for an hour walk around the golf course
Always in the same direction so you don’t get confused
I wish I could walk beside you more often
Instead I call you on Facetime and show you the places I visit
You remember most of them -from your travels- and tell me stories I already know
This is our life now, connected by technology
And by LOVE
You’re leaving us little by little
But you’re still here and that’s what counts!
I know there will be a day when I wish I could hear you tell that same old joke again and again…

👀 Do you really think that your followers want to know what projects you did in the past months, and how happy your clients were? I am always surprised about how self-centered most newsletters are that I receive - often unsolicited - in my overflowing mailbox.

🙌🏼 Instead of talking about how you provided - or can provide - value, why don’t you just DO it? Add value by sharing tips, videos, books, websites and events that inspired you (don’t forget to explain why).

👩🏼‍💻 Share your personal journey, so that people can relate to you. Don’t show only your successes; invite your followers to share and learn from your difficult situations and mistakes as well.

🤔 Successful newsletters are not a fixed format - 'one size fits all' - plus they evolve over time. Therefore, I don’t think it’s wise to let an agency take care of your newsletter (or your social media). How are your newsletters or posts going to reflect your personality, tone of voice and your unique view on the world when you are not involved?

✨ My monthly ‘inspiration shot’ is now read by 14.000 people in 42 countries. It started as ‘5 minutes of inspiration’; a collection of little bits and pieces that had inspired me. Based on the feedback I got from my followers, they evolved to include more personal stories.

❤️ The ‘unsubscribe rate’ is below 0.5%, meaning that most readers enjoy it. Whenever I go to a conference, reception or reunion, many people I meet remark that they follow me, read my stories and appreciate everything I send, even if they don’t always react to it.

Hi! Let me introduce my 'digital nomad' side to you. I am originally from The Netherlands, but I got ‘fired’ from my country because I travel too much. I live a life of complete freedom. I have traveled to more than 100 countries and now keep visiting the ones that I like best. In the past 15 years I have not been in the same place for more than 4 weeks. 🌎

My life may sound like a dream (and it does have a lot of perks!) but it is not always easy. Because I don’t fit in the system, I constantly get into problems with authorities. I had to find a solution for my registration, taxes, insurance, company, bank accounts, passport etc. 👀

Because I know that there are a lot of people who want more freedom (especially now!), I am sharing all my knowledge and experience. I wrote two books about this topic: ‘Digital Nomads, how to live, work & play around the world’ and the Dutch ‘Handboek voor wereldburgers’. 📖

Plus I regularly organize an online ‘Digital Nomad workshop’ where I give practical tips, answer all your questions and help you to design your dream life. When you register, you will receive some videos that I recorded about the most important subjects, so you can get started immediately.
