Inner peace
For a few months now I have had the feeling of deep inner peace. I almost can not believe it. The restlessness that has always been there is gone. I was always in ‘survival mode’, always alert, busy, and productive. Now it feels more like just BEING and enjoying.
It is a kind of base layer of peace that can occasionally be overcome by busyness, stress, or a to-do list. But nothing can mess with the foundation anymore. It still surprises me every day and I enjoy every moment of it. This is what I’ve always tried to achieve by DOING all kinds of things, which only pushed me further away from it. Now that I’m there, it seems so easy: you just have to BE.
I’ve been thinking about what I’ve done lately that could have resulted in that mega shift. Of course, I have been working on my personal development and ‘cleaning up old sh*t’ for years. And I don’t know if it’s a cause or effect, but the shift seems to have come after I announced that I’m going to ‘retire’ in 1.5 years. The ‘endpoint’ in sight, brought a kind of inner relaxation.
In this blog I would like to share some practical tips that may also help you create more peace and space in your busy life
Practical tips for more inner peace
- Since I had an MDMA experience with a psychologist in July 2023, my phone has been on silent and in do-not-disturb mode by default. I decide when I read messages or make phone calls, not others.
- Since the beginning of 2023, I have been meditating for ten minutes every morning. Whether I feel like it or not, whether I have time or not. I take ten minutes to find that inner peace. Even if it isn’t there.
- I hired an (expensive) business coach to help me downscale my business towards my ‘retirement’. This provides accountability and strengthens my commitment to a calmer future.
- Following the advice of that coach, I bundled all my appointments and calls into two days a week, so that I no longer feel like I ‘have to’ do something the entire week. On Tuesdays and Wednesdays, I know I have to work and focus on my book writing coaching clients, which I enjoy. The other days I can follow my energy more.
- Every working day I block two hours of ‘deep work’ in the morning. That’s when I’m most productive, and I want to spend those hours on ‘strategic’, important, or creative work. If I have already made some progress on those projects, it gives me more peace of mind for the rest of the day.
- I delegate even more than usual to my VA. I also help my coaching clients to use Chat GPT more and find a VA. This makes a world of difference!
- I have created space in my inbox: I have canceled all newsletters (sorry!). If you are going to do this too, please do consider keeping my monthly Inspiration shot.
- I’m planning my one-off ‘one-woman’ theater show which brings me so much fun, plus it is already getting me out of my comfort zone, leads to learning new things, is unleashing my creativity, so that it feels like I’m already retired NOW!
Clean up your mess
In addition, it is important to continuously work on your personal development. I have worked with different coaches, and gone to various retreats to get to know myself better and clean up ‘old junk’. That’s not always easy, but it’s important to take the time to slowly, step by step, peel off the different layers that you no longer need.
I am curious about your journey and wish you lots of peace, space, and insights.
