Program
An abundance of inspiration and time to focus on your book
This week is all about writing. Still, you have plenty of opportunities to relax and enjoy the island. We will also go on different short excursions to explore the authentic character of magical Koh Phangan.
An ideal balance of work and leisure
We follow a structured daily program to get the most out of our time together. After a scrumptious sit-down breakfast, there is a writing workshop on a theme that you can immediately apply. Whenever you need one-on-one guidance, I am available.
Tasty light lunches are served in the villa, so that you can focus on your writing project without a dip. At the end of the afternoon we go for a swim, scooter ride, watch the sunset on a beautiful beach or take a mini excursion. Then we will have dinner in one of the many amazing restaurants. and be surprised by the array of Thai culinary delights.
This writer’s retreat is therefore an ideal combination of maximum writing time and still getting a feel for island life.
Daily themes and writing workshops
Day 1. Arrival at the island. You will be welcomed and will receive your own scooter. Welcome dinner where all writers introduce themselves and share their book idea. We’ll also decide on the details of the program together, which includes the different excursions.
Day 2. Workshop back cover writing. Why is it so important, and how do you do it?
Day 3. Structure workshop. I discuss the outlining and the writing process and provide useful tips for making your writing process more efficient.
Day 4. Workshop ‘everything you’ve always wanted to know about (self) publishing’; investment, prices, etc. What does a publisher look for? Print or digital? My publisher and publishing guru, Jan Willem Gerth, will share his best practices with you.
Day 5. Workshop how do you promote your book? Advice on how to do this your way, without being too pushy. Many practical examples for social media.
Day 6. Your title, subtitle, and book cover. How do you choose a good cover? My designer will create a concept for you! Q&A session for all remaining questions.
Day 7. The last evening there is an official closing with a festive dinner, where everyone reads a part from their book.
Day 8. You can still write on the last morning, but there is no more workshop or guidance.

Travel info
Some airlines fly directly to the neighboring island of Koh Samui (USM). The alternative is to fly via Bangkok and then take a cheap, short domestic flight to Koh Samui.
From Samui airport, taxi vans go directly to the harbor (10 mins), where you take the ferry to Koh Phangan (30 – 45 mins). At Thongsala pier you will be met and taken to the villa.
You will get your own scooter or bike to move around the island like a local.
We recommend to stay an extra day on Koh Samui before and maybe even after the retreat, depending on your flight. The last ferry between the islands leaves at 5PM, so it might be nice/convenient to arrive a day earlier and stay a night on Koh Samui. The Samui Mermaid seaside resort is close to the airport and the harbor, and is a great place to spend a night and acclimatize.
