Als je boek klaar is, kun je proeflezers om feedback vragen. Dit zijn vaak vrienden of kennissen en hun reactie is meestal positief. Hoe zorg je ervoor dat de feedback van je proeflezers écht nuttig is?

In mijn ervaring kun je proeflezers het best de volgende drie vragen meegeven om specifieke en goede feedback te krijgen:
👍🏼 Welke stukken vond je goed?
😴 Bij welke delen viel je in slaap?
📖 Wat mis je nog in het boek?

Proeflezers geven feedback vanuit het perspectief van de lezer. Ze vertellen je wat ze goed of interessant vinden. Sommigen noemen kleine dingen die niet kloppen, of misschien delen die te snel gaan of te lang duren. Anderen vinden misschien een foutje dat je redacteur over het hoofd heeft gezien.

ADVENTURES IN THE ITALIAN COUNTRY SIDE

🌿 Life in the Puglian countryside is full of beauty and charm, but sometimes, it comes with its own set of challenges! Yesterday was a perfect example of that. Out of nowhere, the sky turned dark, and a massive storm hit—a crazy mix of rain, thunder, and hailstones as big as marbles. 🌧️⛈️

With one loud thunderclap, the power in my @tinytrullo went out—meaning no electricity, no airconditioning, no light, internet, and no way to contact anyone because I’m in such a remote area without phone reception. 📵

I had a call planned, so I had to get to a cafe with internet, but could not even send my client a message that I was delayed… So I braced myself and got to my car; drenched and pummeled with huge blocks of ice falling from the sky. I drove over flooded roads to the village, no more than 10 minutes away. Funny enough not a single drop of rain had fallen there! Meanwhile, back in the countryside, it felt like the world was ending! 🌪️ I was happy to do my calls from the cafe and my clients were understanding of the delays and enjoyed my ‘apocalypse story’…

Once the storm calmed down, I went home. My neighbor came by and restored most of the electricity, but all my lights and the airconditioning turned out to be broken. Thank goodness I have a solar lamp and some candles. At least the induction plate was working, so I could start cooking. But just 10 minutes in - my food was not even ready - the power went out again, this time across the whole area! 🤦‍♀️

Neighbors were in the muddy streets, discussing what had happened. A car with two young engineers of the electricity company, trying to locate the problem, passed by repeatedly. Everybody talked to them and offered them (cold) food (it was around Italian dinner time)…

The problem persisted, so I spent the evening and night with no dinner, no lights, no air conditioning, no internet, no tea, and no evening catch up call with a friend as I had planned. And no-one is available to come by and fix the problem today…. I’m crossing my fingers things will be fixed tomorrow… or maybe the day after.

Mijn thema is ‘no excuses!’ In mijn eerste boek ‘Wat is jouw excuus?’ vertel ik mijn levensverhaal aan de hand van de meest gebruikte excuses. Ieder hoofdstuk draagt een titel als ‘Ik heb geen tijd’, ‘Ik heb geen geld’ ‘Ik heb geen ervaring’ ‘Ik heb het al een keer geprobeerd’ etc...

Gewoon als hypothetische oefening: Waar zou jouw boek over gaan en hoe zou je jouw thema door je levensverhaal verweven? 📚

About last night….

Went to #acdaendemunnik in concert on the beach with a bunch of old friends.

@simonevalkstark and @hugo.valk live nearby, so we enjoyed dinner at their beautiful new place, while following the concert preparations from the balcony.

Then we all walked to the concert, which was a mix if young, old, so many different kinds of people, who all bonded over the music and the experience.

The sunset was amazing, bathing the beach and all concert goers in a golden light.

There was a group of young guys near us who seriously knew all the lyrics and sang all evening. So cool! 🎼

WAAROM WACHTEN MET DE PROMOTIE VAN JE BOEK? 📣

Als je pas aan promotie begint te denken wanneer je boek af is, dan is het eigenlijk al te laat. Bij de lancering van je boek heb je namelijk maar één moment, terwijl in het voortraject meer promotie waardige momenten te creëren zijn.

Het goede nieuws is dus dat je nú al veel kunt doen, juist tijdens het schrijfproces. Mijn advies is om met de promotie te beginnen zodra je de tekst voor de achterflap, het coverontwerp en de titel hebt. Misschien kun je zelfs al de voorverkoop starten? 📖

Een aantal overtuigende redenen om zo snel mogelijk met je promotie te beginnen:

✔️ Hoe eerder je begint met het in kaart brengen en uitbreiden van je netwerk, hoe meer potentiële lezers (en/of klanten), bloggers en journalisten je straks kunt bereiken als je boek klaar is.

✔️ In plaats van je promotie te beginnen met ‘koop mijn boek’, zoals veel schrijvers doen na publicatie, kun je lezers betrekken bij het schrijfproces waardoor jouw berichten authentieker en minder ‘verkoperig’ over zullen komen.

✔️ Veel mensen lezen een bericht pas als ze het een aantal keren voorbij hebben zien komen, dus het is beter om je promotie over een langere tijd te spreiden.

✔️ Last but not least: Het is een enorme stok achter de deur om daadwerkelijk het boek te schrijven en af te maken!

"I HAVE A DREAM!" Today it is more than 60 years

"I HAVE A DREAM!"

Today it is more than 60 years ago that Martin Luther King gave his famous speech. Every now and then I watch the video and his words, faith, determination and power still move me.

Many of us have dreams that may seem unrealistic today, but that can be achieved in the (near) future.

Sharing your dream with others, visualizing your dream, believing it can be done, working hard and never giving up are things we can learn from Dr. King.

Never forget that what may seem impossible today IS possible!

What is your dream? What do you need to bring it to life? What steps are you taking?
