Colombia 2015

This is my third time visiting this beautiful country and I am still amazed by the friendly people, the great service, the wonderful, fresh food and the quality of life you can have here. From a cheap backpacking trip to a family holiday to an expat experience: anything is possible.

Many digital nomads have discovered the pleasures of Colombia and live and work here for a while. Medellin, with its forever spring like climate seems to be a popular spot. Good internet, many cafes and restaurants, affordable prices make this a good choice. Through airbnb you can rent fantastic apartments, Uber taxis get you anywhere you need.

There are many luxuries to enjoy. For example in the hyper modern cinema in the Santafe Shopping mall in the expat area of Poblado, Medellin, you can order super fresh sushi, which is delivered right to your seat. Fresh fruit shakes are available anywhere. Many fruits you have never even heard of, like tree tomato, lulo and guayabana.

Security does not seem an issue anymore like it was years ago. There are some police in the street, but nobody fusses about it anymore. Many things have changed. For example the issue of corruption among Bogota police has effectively been solved by creating larger teams in stead of just two partners on patrol. Road safety has dramatically improved since restaurants check customers alcohol level before sending them on the road and popular places like Andres Carne de Res even offer drivers to take you home after a night out. I have been told that car insurance covers the cost of these drivers or even provide the service 4 times a month!

My favorite restaurant of all times now also opened a branch in the center of Bogota. In Andres Carne de Res everything is just perfect. The food, the service, the gipsy like decorations, the music, the crowd. One big party and also a learning experience for any entrepreneur, not only those in hospitality. The logistics, the little details, everything is done right.

I am so impressed and inspired that I am taking a small group of entrepreneurs to Colombia to experience first hand the opportunities this country has to offer. Interested? Drop me a line and we’ll get the details arranged.
