Safe adventure does not exist. There is no reward without risk. Fear is part of our life. Sometimes it has a function (to prevent you from harm), sometimes it holds you back, just because this new experience feels uncomfortable. 👀

Many people think that I am not scared of anything, but I am. I just don’t let it influence my actions or hold me back from new adventures. 🌍

My hero Nelson Mandela put it into words: “I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it”. ✨

You have a choice, every day: to focus on reasons NOT to do what you want, or to focus on moving forward. However challenging the situation you are in, there are always possibilities.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DAD!

When you were 50, you wrote a book about the first part of your life, but you never published it.
Today you are turning 75 and Alzheimers has erased most memories from your brain.

Recently we re-discovered your manuscript: neatly printed pages bound in a folder.
Reading it to and with you gives you so much pleasure: you laugh at your own jokes, remark about the ‘great stories’ and sometimes even remember some of your adventures. Usually you ask your caretaker who wrote this amazing book, only to be surprised when the answer is” You wrote it, Robert!”

Not only you are enjoying reading the book, we are also! Your children, your cate takers and family rediscover the person you once were: adventurous, witty, intelligent, enjoying life, going through ups and downs, discovering what life had in store for you.

We are so grateful that you are still with us, content with whatever is and so loving.

You had planned to write a book about the second part of your life as well, and we already know that will never happen.
Instead you are re-living the first part of your life through this book and enjoying every moment in the present: something you are teaching all of us.

🎁 For your birthday today I offer you your book, finally published.
I edited it, formatted it, had a cover designed by DALL-E (an open source AI design program) and have uploaded it to KDP, the self publishing platform of Amazon.
In a few days a physical copy, a real paperback, with a picture of you on the back cover, will be delivered to you.

❤️ I love you just the way you are, dad. Preparing your book for publication made me remember the man and father you once were. Imperfect, like each of us, but doing the best you could.

📖 I would advise everybody to write down their life story and lessons. Conserve your memories before they fade. Make sure you and your loved ones can enjoy them, over and over again….

I AM DUTCH, WHAT IS YOUR SUPERPOWER? 🦸🏼‍♀️

Do you realize that your passport can be a burden or a ’superpower’? Depending on where you are born you have more or less rights and more or less freedom to travel the world. 🌎

Most Europeans got their ’superpower’ at birth, often without realizing it. As a Dutchie, I can travel almost anywhere, just a few countries require a visa, which is usually easy to get. Don’t take your passport / nationality for granted. Enjoy it! 🧳
