Big five, small five, shy five

Afrika staat bekend om zijn 'big five': de vijf grote wilde dieren die je gezien MOET hebben op safari: de leeuw, buffel, olifant, neushoorn en het luipaard. Op reis door Namibië viel het me echter op dat de woestijn zo leeg lijkt en dat en er qua wildlife nauwelijks bezienswaardigheden zijn. Totdat een lokale gids me attent maakte op de “small five”: een collectie spinnen, torren en hagedisjes die in de woestijn leven. Onder zijn deskundige leiding en getraind oog transformeert de dorre omgeving ineens tot wereld waarin het krioelt van het leven!
