Write your book in one week
11th – 17th March 2021, Curaçao
Join me on the Dutch-Caribbean island of Curaçao to write your book. Grant yourself one week to realize that long sought-after dream. Whatever stage your book is at (half-an-idea or half-finished) you will leave Curacao with a much improved or even final version.
Work -and focus- together with others who face the same challenge. Get practical tips, feedback and inspiration from someone who’s (co)authored 25 books and has helped over 400 entrepreneurs write and publish their books. See their results here.
And as a nice bonus, get a taste of life in Curacao and -for those escaping the winter- a week of sunshine… It’s the perfect ‘working vacation’… The trip is tax deductible and results are guaranteed.
All inclusive: The price of the writing retreat includes all meals, daily workshops, personal coaching and all other activities on the program. Only your flight, transport to the hotel and any extra drinks are not included.
Private room – €3500
Shared room – €3000 p.p.
Local deal – If you live on the island: Nafl 2500

- Self publishing and Amazon tips
- Start selling your book before it’s ready
- Promotion and launch ideas
In a video call during the writing retreat my publisher and publishing ‘guru’ will answer all your questions about (self-)publishing.
We will stay at beautiful Landhuis Jan Thiel, a boutique hotel in a centuries-old plantation house on top of a hill, with great views. It is only 30 mins from the airport and close to the sea.
There’s a swimming pool, gardens, terraces with lots of space inside and outside to write and relax. The central workspace will provide writing inspiration, focus, good internet and there’s is always somebody to help you out if you get stuck. You can also write in one of the beach clubs nearby if you prefer.
Landhuis Jan Thiel is famous for its homemade breakfast. Lunched is catered and will be served at the Landhuis. Dinner will be combined with an excursion or activity, so you have the optimal combination of writing time and getting to know the island.
Depending on the participants, the workshops will be done in Dutch or English. You can write in the language you feel most comfortable with. Individual guidance is in the language of your choice. Esther also speaks German, French, Spanish and Portuguese and has a basic understanding of Papiamentu.

See you there? 7 days of workshops, personal guidance, inspiration and pampering.
I am (co)author of 25 books and have helped about 400 entrepreneurs write and publish theirs. After organizing 15 writing retreats in Thailand, Mallorca, Austria, Greece and on Curacao, I know exactly what writers need to bring their books to life.
I will be delighted to contribute my experience and some practical tips.
6PM: Welcome dinner. We’ll all introduce ourselves and our book ideas so that those from abroad and those from the island can get to know each other. The schedule for the week is discussed and the dinner/excursions will be decided (below you’ll find some suggestions)
Home made, a la carte breakfast for those staying at the Villa
10AM 1st workshop: Writing the back cover. We discover why this is so important and why you need to do this. Then for the rest of the day we’ll work on our books, interspersed with a cooling dip in the pool. Esther will provide 1 on 1 guidance and we’ll get together for group feedback on our back covers.
We’ll finish the day at the lovely Jan Thiel beach with a pizza picnic, enjoying dinner while we take in the sunset.
After breakfast there will be a workshop on structuring your book, as well as some useful tips and tools for writing your book. The rest of the day we will continue to work on our back covers, introduction and the structure of our book. (With as much 1 on 1 guidance as you need).
Individual writing with a themed workshop about “self publishing or looking for a publisher?”
We’ll finish the day with a walk at St Joris Bay, to watch the kite-surfing and an enjoy an exclusive BBQ in the ‘village’ that the windsurfers have built of wreckage and driftwood.
Individual writing and a theme workshop ‘how do you promote your book?’
Possible a trip on a private yacht to a deserted bay, with a BBQ on board.
Optional: 5pm tango dancing at Lions Dive’s Cuban evening.
Our last writing day includes a Q & A session video call with my publishing guru.
Farewell dinner in the evening. This festive dinner will include a short reading by each author of a part of their book.
Last breakfast for people staying at the Landhuis. You can continue to write if you like, but there will be no one on one guidance.
Departure day for our visitors from NL. Your luggage can be stored at the villa if you would like to spend the day writing or swimming.
If you live on he island and want to participate in the retreat, I can offer you a special ‘locals deal’. I know it is difficult to pay in Euro’s when you earn in Nafl, and I want to help locals to write their book, so consider this a ‘scholarship’… 🙂
The deal is this: you stay at your own place, take care of your own breakfast and dinner and join us for the daily workshops, lunch and personal guidance. You are welcome to join the group for our evening ‘excursions’ and dinner, providing that you pay for yourself.
It is important that you arrive in time each morning for the workshop at 10AM and join the ‘closing’ of the day around 6PM. We can be flexible in the timing if you let us know in advance. Please try to keep ‘outside obligations’ to a minimum, so you can get the maximum out of the retreat.
Let’s make Curaçao proud by getting your book out there!
“I came here with a great idea, but I was stuck. To really turn it into reality I needed Esther. Sharp, creative and practical.”
“And then, all of a sudden, there was a second book!”
“The publisher said ‘yes’ after Esther helped me with my back cover!”
“I also learned a lot about social media.”
“I learned a lot and became very inspired, even infected, by Esther’s energy and confidence.”
“It’s not about the book. It’s about the writing: organizing, processing. I found my voice…”

A return ticket to Curacao from the Netherlands can cost as little as € 500 if you book in advance. Check out KLM ‘wereld deal weken’ and TUI offers. Skyscanner and other platforms help you get to Curaçao from other parts of the world.
If more people arrive on the same flights, a taxi can be shared from the airport, reducing costs. The Writing Week starts the evening of the first day with a dinner and introduction to all writers. Maybe a swim in the sea and then an early night for the people who arrive from the Netherlands that day. If you take another flight or are already on the island, are please be sure that you are in the villa in time for the 6 pm welcome meeting.
