I first visited in <a href=\"https:\/\/estherjacobs.info\/en\/blog\/peru-en-bolivia\/\">1997<\/a>, came back in 2024 for a spiritual retreat and stayed for a full month in Pisac, a tiny village in the valley under the Intihuatana ruins. As soon as I left, I wanted to go back, and I did, in 2025. This time, in 2026, I was on a conference in Mexico and I felt a strong need to visit again. So I came back on a whim. Just for a week. No plans. I just felt I had to be there, to connect to the ancient energies I feel so connected to.<\/p>\n<p>The first night I searched Spotify for the ancient, traditional music of the Andes, especially Pisac, but I found only modern music, not what my heart longed for. The next morning my Airbnb host took me out on a long hike with his dog. Another guest joined as well. Even though I enjoyed the beauty of the mountains, the talk was pretty superficial. I started to wonder, &quot;Is this what I should be doing? Didn&#8217;t I come here for some magic?&quot;<\/p>\n<p>We paused by the river, with a view of the Intihuatana ruins and the terraces built by the Inca. All of a sudden I heard a traditional flute playing beautiful music, exactly the music I had been searching for the night before. I followed the sound and found a shaman doing a ceremony for a woman. I quietly sat on a stone behind some trees and closed my eyes for a meditation.<\/p>\n<p>Immediately I connected to the Intihuatana ruins. And the message was: &quot;You can dive deeper into the life you lived here, which is amazing and special, or you can take the lessons from that life and move on. There is much more to learn.&quot; So instead of being a &quot;past-life tourist,&quot; I should integrate the lessons learned and &quot;close&quot; that life.<\/p>\n<p>I could feel the magic of that shaman and could see how genuinely he worked with the woman. At the end of their ceremony I asked for his number. Stephano and I texted back and forth a few times. He explained all the plant medicine he worked with, but I told him I am pretty sensitive and just needed his music. I booked a trip along sacred sites with him for the next day.<\/p>\n<h2>Inca mythology<\/h2>\n<p>In the car, Stephano talks me through the Inca worldview represented through the Chakana, the Andean cross. The Chakana is a sacred symbol that connects different dimensions of existence and consciousness. It describes four worlds, each linked to an animal guide:<\/p>\n<p>Uku Pacha, the serpent, represents the inner world, the subconscious, the womb of the earth, transformation, healing, and ancestral wisdom beneath the surface.<\/p>\n<p>Kay Pacha, the puma, is the material world, the human world we live in now, where we learn through action, relationships, challenges, and daily life.<\/p>\n<p>Hanan Pacha, the condor, is the spiritual world, the higher realms, intuition, expanded consciousness, and connection with the divine and the cosmos.<\/p>\n<p>Hawa Pacha, the hummingbird, exists beyond even the spiritual realms, beyond heaven, symbolizing pure source consciousness, timelessness, and the ability to move between worlds.<\/p>\n<p>The Chakana is not just a map of the universe, but also a map of human consciousness. The journey is about learning to move between these worlds in balance, connecting earth and sky, matter and spirit, outer experience and inner knowing.<\/p>\n<p>So many new Quechua words to understand and remember&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>When Stephano says that the Apu, the mountain spirits, are waiting for us, for people with pure hearts who are willing to listen, I suddenly get emotional. It touches something deep inside me. Then he speaks about connecting through the heart, and I feel emotional again. This means that what he says is true for me. We also talk about remembering versus learning.<\/p>\n<p>On the way, we pick up his friend, shaman Benito, from the Q&#8217;ero nation, descendants of Inca communities who remained hidden high in the Andes for centuries after the Spanish conquest and only became known to the outside world about a hundred years ago. They are regarded as keepers of ancient Andean wisdom and traditions that many believed had disappeared forever. I feel honored to have Benito with us on this journey.<\/p>\n<div style=\"display:grid;grid-template-columns:repeat(auto-fit,minmax(220px,1fr));gap:18px;align-items:end;max-width:960px;margin:24px auto;\">\n<figure style=\"margin:0;text-align:center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-575630\" src=\"https:\/\/estherjacobs.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/01-peru-chakana-cross-900.jpg\" alt=\"\" style=\"width:100%;height:auto;\" \/><\/figure>\n<figure style=\"margin:0;text-align:center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-575626\" src=\"https:\/\/estherjacobs.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/11-peru-magic-shamans-900.jpg\" alt=\"\" style=\"width:100%;height:auto;\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<h2>Permission<\/h2>\n<p>Our first &quot;huaca,&quot; or sacred site, is Chektaqaqa, a tiny hidden cave that looks completely unremarkable from the outside. Most people would drive right past it. Only locals know this place. Stephano explains that it represents the center of the world, the navel, the womb.<\/p>\n<p>Before entering, we do a cleansing ritual with sacred perfume. The moment I step inside, I sense the presence of small beings, as if they are quietly checking us out. Benito seems surprised that I can perceive them. He tells me they live in a miniature world.<\/p>\n<div style=\"display:grid;grid-template-columns:repeat(auto-fit,minmax(220px,1fr));gap:18px;align-items:end;max-width:960px;margin:24px auto;\">\n<figure style=\"margin:0;text-align:center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-575634\" src=\"https:\/\/estherjacobs.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/04-peru-chektaqaqa-hidden-cave-scaled-900.jpg\" alt=\"\" style=\"width:100%;height:auto;\" \/><\/figure>\n<figure style=\"margin:0;text-align:center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-575628\" src=\"https:\/\/estherjacobs.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/12-peru-permission-ceremony-900.jpg\" alt=\"\" style=\"width:100%;height:auto;\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>But once we reach the chamber itself, nothing happens. No visions. No messages. Only a strong vibration moving through my body. So I decide to follow the vibration instead.<\/p>\n<p>The moment I surrender to it, my entire body starts shaking violently. Benito and Stephano immediately begin blessing me, spraying cleansing liquid, praying, singing, playing music around me, but I am completely inside my own experience now.<\/p>\n<p>I begin to cry as the shaking intensifies. Suddenly I see fire and destruction in the valley below. Devastation. Grief. But at the same time there is a wall of fire between the valley and this cave, protecting it, hiding it, rendering this sacred place and the ancient wisdom it carries invisible to the outside world.<\/p>\n<p>Then something shifts. I can suddenly see straight through the stone wall of the cave into the valley beyond. I become a condor, looking out over the land. I spread my arms. Then I become a stone condor statue, a cross, carefully carved, standing motionless for centuries, patiently waiting for the old wisdom to be remembered.<\/p>\n<p>When I later describe this to Benito and Stephano, tears stream down my face. Then another realization comes. My mission is not only to look outward, but inward. So I descend into myself. I move down stone steps into my womb, where there is an opening deep into the earth itself.<\/p>\n<p>Suddenly my knees buckle. Powerful contractions take over my body, as if I am giving birth. And when it finally passes, I receive a message: Now you have permission. Permission to begin, or continue, this magical journey through the Sacred Valley.<\/p>\n<p>As we leave the cave, I realize that the wall of fire I saw was the protection of this place itself, the force that keeps it hidden from those who are not ready to see it. Then Benito shares something extraordinary. His ancestors also hid in plain sight. He explains that they protected entire villages by weaving colorful nets, energetic shields that made whole settlements invisible.<\/p>\n<p>The Inca had many ways of hiding sacred knowledge.<\/p>\n<p>As we drive to the next site, I suddenly recognize the exact valley view I had seen through the cave wall. And then I see it. A giant white statue of Jesus with arms spread wide over the valley.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;That&#8217;s it!&quot; I blurt out. &quot;That&#8217;s what I saw. But it wasn&#8217;t Jesus. It was a stone condor statue standing like a cross above the valley.&quot;<\/p>\n<p>Benito falls silent. Then he quietly says: &quot;Yes. That used to be an ancient ceremonial site. There was once a condor statue there. The Spanish replaced it with a Christ statue.&quot;<\/p>\n<p>We are all in awe of what came through me. I tapped into ancient knowledge.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"max-width:520px;margin:22px auto;text-align:center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-575632\" src=\"https:\/\/estherjacobs.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/05-peru-christ-statue-valley-scaled-900.jpg\" alt=\"\" style=\"width:100%;height:auto;\" \/><\/figure>\n<h2>A lesson in humility<\/h2>\n<p>Our next stop is Chinkana Grande, a tiny cave at the end of a narrow underground tunnel. There is only enough room for two people, so Benito waits outside while Stephano and I enter. Before we switch off our lights for meditation in complete darkness, Stephano points out a carefully carved serpent in the stone wall. Opposite the serpent, I sense the tunnel continuing deeper underground beside me.<\/p>\n<p>After the intense experience earlier this morning, I feel ready to receive something. But nothing happens. I realize I am trying too hard. Only once I completely accept that, an image appears.<\/p>\n<p>I see Benito emerging from the depths below, beckoning me to follow him. In my mind I follow him through winding tunnels, constantly losing sight of him around the curves. Eventually we reach a huge golden sphere buried in the earth. Not physical gold. Spiritual gold.<\/p>\n<p>Every time I move closer, it sinks deeper into the ground, and I keep chasing it. Then suddenly Benito stops me. He grabs me and drags me back across the ground to where I am physically sitting in meditation. I resist. I want to continue.<\/p>\n<p>But the message becomes clear: You do not need to go deeper, searching for something outside yourself. You need to integrate what is already here. Be where you are.<\/p>\n<p>The moment I understand this, the serpent places a golden crown on my head. I am shocked. Me? A golden crown? I do not feel worthy of it. Then I look down and realize I am a frog. A frog wearing a golden crown.<\/p>\n<p>At first it feels humiliating. But later the others explain that, in Inca symbolism, the frog represents abundance, fertility, prosperity, and new beginnings. The experience suddenly feels beautiful instead of ridiculous. A lesson in humility.<\/p>\n<p>Later, Benito tells me about Paititi, the hidden sacred university of the Inca, where people learn the awakening of the inner sun. Many believed it was a city of gold, but the real treasure was always spiritual. Paititi is hidden deep in the earth. He believes that was the golden sphere I perceived.<\/p>\n<div style=\"display:grid;grid-template-columns:repeat(auto-fit,minmax(220px,1fr));gap:18px;align-items:end;max-width:900px;margin:24px auto;\">\n<figure style=\"margin:0;text-align:center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-575636\" src=\"https:\/\/estherjacobs.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/09-peru-entering-womb-earth-900.jpg\" alt=\"\" style=\"width:100%;height:auto;\" \/><\/figure>\n<figure style=\"margin:0;text-align:center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-575638\" src=\"https:\/\/estherjacobs.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/08-peru-snake-labyrinth-meditation-900.jpg\" alt=\"\" style=\"width:100%;height:auto;\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<h2>The test<\/h2>\n<p>Then we arrive at our third huaca the Lanqulayoq system of tunnels, sometimes referred to as the snake caves or &quot;Zone X.&quot;. We sit for meditation while Stephano sings and plays guitar and Benito accompanies him with traditional instruments.<\/p>\n<p>The previous lesson is still fresh in my mind: stay humble, stop grasping, simply be. So this time I just sit. I don&#8217;t want or need anything to happen.<\/p>\n<p>And then a &quot;real&quot; snake crawls onto my lap. It enjoys the warmth of my body and the sunlight for a while, then calmly moves on. I simply let it come and let it leave. Soon more snakes appear around me. One moves across my shoulder. I feel excited, but I stay centered.<\/p>\n<p>Then suddenly a snake begins emerging from my mouth. From my eyes. I become a mummy. Later they tell me that ancient mummies were kept in these caves, and that there are drawings of snakes emerging from mouths and eyes.<\/p>\n<p>Still, I remain calm. Every time my mind drifts, I gently return to my center. Then I feel an enormous serpent beneath me rising from the earth, trying to swallow me whole. I am not afraid. I do not know whether it is a test or an invitation, so I allow it to happen while staying completely centered. Each time it pulls me down, I remain exactly where I am internally.<\/p>\n<p>Then the serpent transforms into a dragon breathing fire. Still I am not afraid. Still I stay centered.<\/p>\n<p>Then the energy changes tactics. Suddenly my perception itself begins to distort. I find myself sitting on a rock floating over endless depths. I am terrified of heights, but I know this is illusion. So I stay calm.<\/p>\n<p>Then I sit on a star made of light at the top of a mountain. More visions come and go. And suddenly I understand: These are tests.<\/p>\n<p>And strangely enough, I feel grateful for them. Grateful that I can remain centered inside them.<\/p>\n<p>Then I hear the sound of Benito&#8217;s instrument, seeds attached to an ayahuasca stem, sounding like falling rain. The sound transforms into circles of energy moving toward me. They enter my body and begin reorganizing my cells and DNA. And it feels incredible. Beautiful.<\/p>\n<p>Later they tell me that many people experience snakes and similar visions during ayahuasca ceremonies, but most become frightened. They keep repeating that they have never seen someone enter this state without plant medicine. For me, it was &quot;just meditation.&quot; But I have never experienced anything like this before.<\/p>\n<h2>Ancient puzzles and maps<\/h2>\n<p>The next stop is a rock formation that resembles a meteorite, full of strange carvings and impossible shapes, yet it also feels like a spaceship transmitting energy upward into the sky. As we approach, I see tourists climbing onto them and taking smiling photographs.<\/p>\n<p>At first I feel overwhelming sadness that such a sacred place is being treated casually. Tears begin to fall. Then anger rises inside me. I know these emotions are not mine. I know I should have compassion for tourists who don&#8217;t know any better and who just see a bunch of interesting stones. But the indignation is strong. I must be tapping into some ancient guardian energy that hangs around the site. I can&#8217;t stop it. It is overwhelming.<\/p>\n<p>Then the anger turns into pure rage. My body starts shaking. I growl with anger. How dare they?<\/p>\n<p>The shamans look at my sudden emotions with part surprise, part amusement, part understanding. Trying to calm myself, I walk quietly around the site instead.<\/p>\n<p>Then I notice a small hidden path leading to the side. Instantly I &quot;remember&quot; that this path was only meant for initiates. Walking it revealed whether someone was spiritually ready to approach the sacred stones. Even for initiates, the answer could differ from day to day.<\/p>\n<p>At the thrones themselves, I move with deep respect. I could never imagine sitting on them. These seats belonged to people who had prepared for years, people with pure hearts.<\/p>\n<p>Then I feel two ley lines extending diagonally from the thrones into the landscape. Below, between the thrones, I notice a triangle carved into the rock, perfectly aligned with those energetic lines. As we explore further, more edges of the shape emerge. It seems like a star made out of triangles carved in the rock. It feels like a map of the ley lines and the sacred sites connected to them.<\/p>\n<p>Above, between the two thrones, there was a space for something sacred. A painting? I can almost see what once stood there: A golden sun. The true king.<\/p>\n<p>I keep describing impressions and images to Benito, and he repeatedly confirms that they are either historically accurate or highly probable. It feels surreal.<\/p>\n<p>When more tourists arrive, ready to climb onto the thrones for pictures, we leave. I want to kill them.<\/p>\n<h2>Space ship secrets<\/h2>\n<div style=\"display:grid;grid-template-columns:repeat(auto-fit,minmax(220px,1fr));gap:18px;align-items:end;max-width:900px;margin:24px auto;\">\n<figure style=\"margin:0;text-align:center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-575644\" src=\"https:\/\/estherjacobs.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/03-peru-meteorite-spaceship-rock-scaled-900.jpg\" alt=\"\" style=\"width:100%;height:auto;\" \/><\/figure>\n<figure style=\"margin:0;text-align:center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-575667\" src=\"https:\/\/estherjacobs.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/10-peru-at-the-ruins-900.jpg\" alt=\"\" style=\"width:100%;height:auto;\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>We walk around the stone formation. Again it feels like a space ship to me. There are staircases carved into the stone that seem to lead nowhere. Suddenly I realize they may align with different stars, like buttons and levers on a dashboard. This rock itself was the dashboard, a system designed to connect with energies in the heavens.<\/p>\n<p>Another way sacred knowledge was protected was by dividing it into fragments. Each person received only a small piece, depending on their gifts and purity of heart. Only together could the full puzzle be understood. You even see this reflected in Hollywood films like The Lord of the Rings.<\/p>\n<p>Today, Benito, Stephano and I each carried different puzzle pieces, and together we assembled glimpses of something much larger. It made all of us feel humble, grateful, and deeply happy.<\/p>\n<h2>Inca university<\/h2>\n<p>Our final stop is Quenco Chico, a hill covered with mysterious stone structures that once functioned as a kind of university for astrology. Much of it remains unexplained. The three of us walk around sharing observations, trying to connect the pieces. But by now my head is overflowing.<\/p>\n<p>Finally I laugh and tell them: &quot;My head is full.&quot;<\/p>\n<p>Both of them burst out laughing. Only then do I learn that this site is part of the larger Saqsayhuaman complex, and that in Quechua the name literally means: &quot;Filling your head.&quot;<\/p>\n<p>What an unbelievable day. I cannot wait to process all of this. And I am deeply curious about tonight&#8217;s dreams. The mountains probably still have more messages waiting.
